Turn your limits into goals
Which stories are holding you back?
You are telling yourself a limiting story that is holding you back. We all are in some way or other.
Many of us are held back by things that we believe are true, which aren’t. It's basically a form of fear and it's designed to protect us. But it keeps us in a place where we can become stagnant or achieve less than we want to.
Turn your limits into goals.
For years I believed that I was not going to go to Uni. Then I did.
I believed I would not become a people manager. Then I did.
Then I told myself I can’t run my own business. Now I do. And so on and so forth.
These limiting stories hold us back as individuals. But they also hold our results and teams back. Sometimes whole organisations are held back by stories that get shared as part of their business culture.
I like to help managers turn these limits into goals.
No B###$hit leadership
I worked in a large utility where they generally communicated with their front line manual workers by letters posted to workers homes.
“They prefer it this way” I was told.
No way, I thought. This is not right. It might feel convenient for leaders to outsource their communication in this way. But its a myth. I knew this was a story and was holding back engagement and performance in the workforce.
I made it my mission to dispel this crazy blockage that was limiting results. I love a challenge. So I set a goal to break the story open and achieve more.
I did the one thing that no one could argue with…I asked the employees what they wanted and of course they wanted to hear directly from managers and senior leaders. Face to face. No letters. No hiding. No BS.
The letters created questions and gaps with no one to explain or answer. This was a big problem for me as I am all about creating conversations the unite the workforce and move it forward.
The employees wanted a “No Bullsh@1” conversation with managers. Warts and all. No surprises really.
