How to get ahead in 2020

If you haven't done so already the best time to plan 2020 is now. Not next year.

Make your move this side of the holidays to ensure you get off the blocks quick smart in January. Proactive planning now will set you up for early 2020 success. Don't get stuck in the churn or bogged down.

Here are some tips for getting on the road to high performance in 2020.

1. Be proactive

Don’t wait for others to start their planning. Being proactive enables you to get clarity on your contribution and make progress early. Being ready ensures you know what you need from your team and others.

It's like going on a road trip in the holidays: pack and head off early to avoid the traffic.

2. Get clear on your value

Value and results are the currency of high performing teams.

Talk and listen to leaders and stakeholders. Make sure you understand the business needs. Align your work and team to ensure you are collaborating and adding value.

3. Less is more

Do a few things well. Don’t spread yourself thin and lose momentum delivering an endless list. Having a few priorities ensures you can really focus and excel. High performance comes from laser-like focus on your goals, not from saying yes to everything. Prioritise what matters and decide what you will STOP, START and KEEP doing.

4. Clarity

Clarity now saves time and tears later. Get clear on the results that you need to deliver. Communicate these upfront so that you, your teams and leaders are on the same page. Book in time throughout next year to report your results.
